In the September issue in the Speedobilia department on page 14, J Daniel Beaudry writes of Nathanial Havholm’s grille photographs: “The effect is that the front of the car becomes, paradoxically, both more familiar and more artistically abstract, and the audience’s nostalgia for the particular automobile resonates with the owner’s.”
While he likes our “cool shirts,” he focuses on the photographs that yield their silk- screened images, and he understands the result in Nathanial’s “stunning detail.”
Because Nathanial photographs only cars found on the street in Los Angeles, their neighborhoods and their owners are “part of their life story.”
These are loved, driven machines, whose lives empower their images.
